Armscor Dockyard, Site and Facilities Services Division has a vacancy for a Crane Driver. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide a mobile, wharf, and overhead crane services; as well as forklift and cherry picker driving services to support the naval and dockyard operational requirements.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Operate all mobile vehicles such as cranes (overhead, wharf and mobile), cherry pickers and forklifts on the site.
Conduct first and last parade checks on the all mobile vehicles before and after use.
Report any non-conformances of the vehicles to the Supervisor.
Assist the supervisor with the management of both the fleet and mobile equipment.
Assist with license renewals and general driving requirements for the section.
Perform risk assessment for each task especially before lifting equipment with the mobile crane.
Move cradles and position dry-dock keel blocks, when required for docking.
Assess environmental conditions, inspect physical area for crane positioning, ensuring that the ground surface is stable,
Assist riggers and slingers to assess lifting points and straps on equipment to be lifted.
Operate the tractors to assist with the moving and/or docking of vessels on the synchrolift.
Manage the safety of the mobile vehicle and the equipment that is being lifted or moved at all times.
Ensure that the safety circuits example the weight and wind measuring devices are operating correctly before the crane is used.
Clean and perform first line maintenance on the mobile equipment and fleet vehicles.
Conduct daily inspections are per the maintenance procedures, ensure all log books are updated and stored correctly.
Assist docking master with the docking of vessels at dry-dock & synchrolift.
Assist with Adhoc functions relating to handyman/senior handyman duties such as painting and cleaning of the workshops, assisting with docking, and erecting and dismantling of scaffolding.
Assist the supervisor during the load testing and certification of equipment.
Ensure that any abnormalities with regard to the vehicles are reported immediately and logged for repair with the diesel mechanic.
Conducting safety checks on all mobile equipment to ensure that the safety circuits are always operational before any work can commence.
Adherence to the OHS Act for driven machine regulations.
Manage and maintain the safety of the mobile equipment and the load at all times.
Code 14 Drivers License
Mobile crane certification
Forklift and cherry picker license will be an added advantage
Minimum 5 years’ industrial experience with 2 years heavy duty driving experience
Marine environment experience will be an added advantage
Must be willing to work overtime.
Knowledge of onshore port equipment.
Knowledge of preservation and ship terminology.
Knowledge of the Occupational, Health and Safety Act.
ISO 9001:2008 Theory & practice.
Ability to work at heights and confined spaces
Strong ethical conduct
