Job description :

Herschel Girls School is looking for a suitably qualified person to provide medical care for our pupils during the school day and to oversee and manage the small weekly boarding house (Arderne House) which is situated at the heart of the school. We are looking for a person who seeks the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and excellent staff and school, committed to creating a happy, safe and vibrant boarding house, responsive to the needs and growth of adolescents.

The successful applicant will report to the Deputy Head of Pastoral Care and will be expected to be a caring, intuitive and highly organised person who is easily approachable, has excellent relational skills and values interacting with young adults. The commencement of this position is January 2022.

She should be in possession of a valid driving licence and will need to be proficient administratively. Accommodation will be offered in a flatlet within the boarding house and would suit a single person/a couple.

Requirements :

The following competencies are essential in the candidate we seek:
Certified nursing/medical experience (staff nurse or nursing sister) and proficiency and qualifications
Excellent relational skills which allow for the development of a safe, inclusive and nurturing ‘home away from home environment
The ability to be patient, caring, understanding, open-minded and empathetic and be committed to a genuine duty of care towards the boarders and the extended student body
Excellent organisational and communication skills, as well as the ability to oversee and distribute the duties of assistants in the house
A person who is in good health and possesses positive energy and a can-do attitude, all of which are essential qualities given the demands of this position
The successful candidate must be fully supportive of the school’s transformation objectives, being responsive to equity and belonging and in this way is fully committed to the school’s strategic change objectives, translating these tangibly and positively into the ethos of boarding at Arderne House.
Be highly responsive and aware of those issues that arise in our society, community and school that inform growth and awareness with respect to good citizenship, intentionally creating a space in which awareness and appreciation of good citizenship is nurtured.
Be able to inspire and motivate students to realise their potential
Proficiency in isiXhosa would be an advantage
