ROLE SUMMARY
The Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary will be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of
patients and will function under the direct and/ or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. This includes
caring for the patient, his possessions, documentation and the control and economical use of stock and
equipment in the ward.
KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The duties of the post include but are not limited to the following, and are carried out in accordance with Netcare’s
Policies and Procedures. The objective of this post is to render and promote cost effective quality patient care in
accordance with hospital standards and policies.
 Practice patient care according to his/her Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these
activities
 Execute all procedures according to hospital standards
 Carry out all departmental related duties as assigned by Supervisors
 Practice the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions
 Promote and maintains good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
 Attend handover of report from the Shift leader
 Refer any queries to the sister-in-charge.
 Ensures that all documentation is maintained accurately and timorously reflecting patient care
 Ensure all stock is charged appropriately
 Assist with file compilation
 Maintains a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards
 Adheres to Netcare medical waste management principles and all other waste management principles
 Maintains a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act
 Reports potential/actual risks identified
 Ensures all stock is well controlled and managed
 Responsible for ensuring correct use, cleaning and storage of equipment
 Reports equipment needing repair or replacement to sister-in-charge
 Maintain professional conduct and standards at all times in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
 Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
 Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional development
 Assumes responsibility for maintaining competence in CPR
 Projects a positive professional image
 Promotes and maintains good working and interpersonal relationships with management, colleagues and
doctors
 Keeps up to date with Netcare’s evolving policies and procedures
SKILLS PROFILE
EDUCATION
 Registered with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary
WORK EXPERIENCE
 Relevant experience in the nursing discipline
 Previous experience in Theatre essential
KNOWLEDGE
 Thorough knowledge of general / specialized nursing theory and practice
 Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices in the highly specialised field
